Russco Regenerative Braking

The Russco Regenerative Braking system divides the propulsion batteries into two 48 volt groups. In the motoring quadrant, an Albright SW-200B, NO Contactor is closed to connect the two groups of batteries in series to provide 96 volts for the Russco Controller. In the braking quadrant, the SW-200B is opened and an Albright SW190-2, two pole NO Contactor closes to parallel the two groups of batteries to provide 48 volts. A Russco field controller, using Vicor Modules, provides 2 volts at 200 amps to excite the motor field. Armature current flows through the controller anti-parallel diodes to the battery load, slowing the vehicle and charging the batteries. Regenerative braking increases the range approximately 10%.
